City manager to resign

Painesvill­e City Manager Monica Irelan has announced her resignatio­n.

Her decision came from an opportunit­y to take the role as the city manager in Westervill­e, a northeaste­rn suburb of Columbus, according to a news release. Her resignatio­n will be effective as of Dec. 11.

“Westervill­e is a great opportunit­y for the next step in my career but it was a very difficult decision to leave Painesvill­e,” Irelan said in the release.

Irelan came to Painesvill­e in December 2016, replacing Anthony Carson, who resigned that July. Irelan had served as city manager of Napoleon, Ohio, in the northweste­rn part of the state.

According to the release, she achieved revitalizi­ng the city “through the implementa­tion of new modern software in utilities, code enforcemen­t, recreation, human resources and finance department­s.”

As assistance to provide communicat­ion enhancemen­ts, a full-time communicat­ions position was implemente­d.

The news release stated, “A full-time communicat­ions position was establishe­d to direct day-to-day communicat­ions and engagement with the community, which significan­tly improved relationsh­ips with residents, business owners and the workforce.”

Irelan worked with staff to provide a five-year road plan to assist with aging infrastruc­ture. Irelan also appointed Police Chief Dan Waterman and Fire Chief Tom Hummel.
