NDCL VS. COVENTRY

Records: NDCL 12-5, Coventry 23-2
What’s next: Winner plays the Jonathan Alder-Sheridan winner in a state semifinal Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at Vandalia Butler.
What to look for: NDCL and Coventry rolled into a regional final with impressive semifinal wins. The Lions swept league rival Lake Catholic, 25-19, 2513, 25-22, and Coventry swept Tallmadge, 25-14, 25-18, 2516. ... NDCL used finesse shots, rolls, good shots and wellplaced balls to dominate the Cougars. Lauren Janosy and Caroline Jurevicius were bigtime effective, and Eva Wheeler had 29 digs. ... Coventry’s top players are Carly Wightman (302 kills) and Brooke Mirka (223 digs, 178 kills).
GILMOUR VS. SANDUSKY PERKINS

Where: Lexington High School Records: Gilmour 20-1, Perkins 24-2
What’s next: Winner plays Tippecanoe-Roger Bacon winner in a state semifinal Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at Vandalia Butler. What to look for: Each team had to sweat out regional semifinal victories to get to the final at Lexington. Gilmour trailed Columbus Hartley, 2-1, but then won the final two sets to clinch its regional final spot. Perkins led Maumee, 2-0, then lost two straight until it won the fifth set, 15-13. ... Of Perkins’ 24 wins, 19 have come in sweeps. That’s highly unlikely against the talented Lancers. ... Perkins is led by middle hitter Elizabeth Ziegler (291 kills, 72 blocks) and libero Cameron Kaufman (451 digs). ... Watch out for Gilmour seniors Eva Nestor (554 assists) and Brinn MacLellan (191 kills, 69 blocks).
