Virus cases more than double in past week
1,000-plus new cases reported, health officials say
Lake County saw more than 1,000 new novel coronavirus cases in the past week, more than double the previous record that was set the week prior.
From Nov. 3 to 10, Lake County saw 1,020 new COVID-19 cases, according to the Lake County’ latest weekly data report released Nov. 11.
The health district’s health reports are released each Wednesday and include data as of 2 p.m. of that Tuesday.
Last week Lake County saw 490 new COVID-19 cases.
A d d i t i o n a l l y, Lake County saw a record 32 new coronavirus-related hospitalizations over that span.
Lake County now has 3,599 total COVID-19 cases, as of 2 p.m. Nov. 10.
There are 242 tota l reported hospitalizations, including 46 ICU admissions.
The Ohio Department of Health presumes that 1,912 Lake County residents have recovered from COVID-19 (defined as those
with symptom onset date greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased).
The average age of those hospitalized in Lake County is 66 years old, according to the health district’s data. The average length of stay is 7.3 days.
Of those hospitalized, 71 percent had preexisting conditions.
According to ODH, Lake County’s COVID-19 incidence rate is currently 515 per 100,000 population, an increase from 226.81 reported on Nov. 5.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines high incidence
as 100 cases per 100,000 population.
There are now 61 total deaths from COVID-19 in Lake County, according to the health district. That’s up one from last week.
The age range of those who have died from COVID-19 is 43 to 101 years old. Of those who died, 89 percent had preexisting conditions and 62 percent resided in congregate living.
The exposure source is unknown in 72 percent of Lake County’s COVID-19 cases, the health district’s data shows. Household contact and community con
tact each account for 10 percent of cases.
Health care contact accounts for 5 percent of cases and travel history accounts for 2 percent.
Statew ide Ohio has 261,482 total COVID-19 cases as of 2 p.m. Nov. 10, according to ODH.
That included a record 6,508 new daily cases reported Nov. 10.
There have been 21,037 total hospitalizations and 5,547 total deaths from COVID-19 statewide. ODH presumes 189,079 Ohioans have recovered from the virus.
