Tony Fisher Award watch list

The Tony Fisher Award goes to The News-Herald’s football player of the year.

It is named after the legendary running back from Euclid, who went on to be named Ohio’s Mr. Football, then played at the University of Notre Dame and then went on to play in the NFL. The candidates on this list, shown in alphabetic­al order, can and will change on a weekly basis based on each week’s performanc­e. Jaylen Anderson, Perry: The West Virginia commit finished the season with 875 yards rushing, nine receptions for 124 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had four tackles, 1 1⁄2 sacks and a forced fumble on defense. Chase Fortkamp, Wickliffe: He finished the season running 1,1604 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. Defensivel­y he finished with 107 tackles, seven TFLs, four sacks, four fumble recoveries, three pass-breakups, two sacks, two forced fumbles, an intercepti­on and a blocked field goal.

Ian Kipp, Mentor: Did not play in the Cardinals’ 38-31 loss to Pickeringt­on Central. He finished the season throwing for 2,048 yards and 26 touchdowns and running for 384 yards and seven scores.

Dom Lulow, Riverside: He finished the season throwing for 1,644 yards and 18 touchdowns and running for 282 yards and two scores. Joe Malchesky, Lake

Catholic: Completed 9 of 11 passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran 33 times for 151 yards and two scores in the Cougars’ win over Youngstown Ursuline. For the season, he has run for 1,226 yards and 11 touchdowns and passed for 936 yards and 13 scores. Defensivel­y, he has 61 tackles (27 solo), three intercepti­ons, eight pass breakups and a TFL.

James Pettyjohn, Chardon: Carried 17 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the Hilltopper­s’ 38-6 win over Canfield. For the season, he has run for 1,319 yards and 17 touchdowns and caught eight passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.

Mason Sullivan, Kirtland: Carried 28 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns in the Hornets’ 49-35 win over South Range. For the season, he has run for 1,186 yards and 17 touchdowns and has thrown a touchdown pass. Defensivel­y, he has 41 tackles.

Charlie Taylor, Geneva: He finished the season running for 1,140 yards and 17 touchdowns, caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Defensivel­y, he had 63 tackles, three sacks, seven TFLs, three caused fumbles, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. He also punted for a 36.1-yard average and kicked off for a 34.9-yard average.
