Lakeland Community College is waiving its $15 application fee for those who apply for admission and wish to take classes in the spring semester, school officials recently announced.

Spring registration is now open. Classes begin Jan. 16.

“With so much uncertainty right now, we want the community to know that they can count on us,” said Lakeland President Morris Beverage Jr. “Lakeland has provided college access in Lake County and the surrounding areas for more than 50 years.

“In times like these, you can be certain that we’ll continue to provide high-quality, educational opportunities in high-demand fields.”

With many facing financial strain due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, future students are encouraged to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for help with money for college.

Lakeland may be added as a college of choice on the FAFSA form with the school’s code 006804. Many Lakeland scholarships are awarded using

the information on a student’s FAFSA.

Because of COVID-19, students may also be eligible for CARES Act Emergency Grant funding toward unforeseen emergency expenses. Many have received money to use for technology, groceries, child or health care

needs.

Military veterans are especially encouraged to contact the veteran’s office for information about apply ing GI education benefits, where they can receive assistance with questions about f illing out, and completing, Veterans Affairs forms, and receive assistance with advance registration each semester.
