Leaders look to fund Chillicothe Road work
Project requires final application approval to repave 2 plus miles
Mentor officials are hoping to add another major road resurfacing project to next year’s infrastructure improvements.
City Council on Dec. 1 authorized submitting a final funding application and executing an agreement for repaving Chillicothe Road.
The District 7 Ohio Public Works Committee tentatively approved the pre-application for the project in this year’s Round 35 funding, Mentor Engineer Dave Swiger said.
It is expected to cost about $1.18 million, and will be partially funded with a $439,900 grant and $150,000 loan by the OPWC
State Capital Improvement Program.
“This project is considered a reservoir project and is not guaranteed for full funding,” Swiger noted.
That means it fell just below the funding line for regional OPWC projects submitted this year. It will re
ceive partial funding if OPWC program funds are sufficient, he said.
The most recent pavement condition rating for Chillicothe was 69 out of 100. The road was last resurfaced in 2006.
The work will take place from Mentor Avenue to
Route 84, which is about 2.07 miles. The project also includes full-depth repairs, as necessary.
Average daily traffic on the road is estimated at approximately 7,700 vehicles. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
“Some traffic delays may
be experienced during the day when workers are present,” Swiger said.
The project is expected to take place in the fall of 2021, assuming it receives OPWC funding, he said.
The proposed budget for next year also includes improvements to Tyler Bou
levard from Route 615 to Heisley Road, at an estimated cost of $1.5 million, and resurfacing Hopkins Road from Market Street to Mentor Avenue, for about $980,000 in total.
The bid for the latter project was awarded in October.
