For the third time, Kirtland’s Mason Sullivan has been named first team Division V All-Ohio in polling.

Make that a trifecta for Kirtland’s Mason Sullivan.

For the third year in a row, Sullivan is a first-team All-Ohioan. Sullivan was named first-team Division V All-Ohio at running back in polling presented by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association on Dec. 8.

Sullivan is one of 10 Kirtland players who earned first-, second- or third-team All-Ohio status in D-V.

In D-IV polling, Lake Catholic led The News-Herald coverage area contingent with four All-Ohioans, led by quarterback safety Joe Malchesky — a firstteam selection just weeks after being named the winner of The News-Herald’s Tony Fisher Award as its 2020 player of the year.

Here’s a breakdown of the top award-getters in each division:

• Sullivan ran for 1,475 yards and 20 touchdowns this season for the D-V state champion Hornets. He also threw a pair of TD passes. Sullivan was first-team AllOhio at running back as a junior, and was a first-team defender as a sophomore.

• Joining Sullivan on firstteam D-V offense was teammate Kristian Grman, a two-time All-Ohio lineman, and Berkshire quarterback Jacob Brown. Brown ran for 1,094 yards and 16 TDs and also passed for 1,064 yards and 14 scores.

• Headlining the D-V first-team defense are a trio of Kirtland players: linebacker Mason Rus and defensive backs Joey Grazia and Anthony DeMarco.

Rus led Kirtland with more than 100 tackles this year, Grazia led the area with 28 pass breakups and

DeMarco was a standout safety, running back and return man.

Berkshire’s J.J. Perrin was named first-team AllOhio in D-V, as well, after being among the area leaders in sacks and TFLs.

• Earning second-team Division V All-Ohio honors were five Hornets: QB Liam Powers, offensive tackle George Prusock, defensive lineman Luke Gogolin, linebacker Carson Andonian and punter Gage Sullivan.

Berkshire offensive lineman Lucas Stoddard also received a second-team nod.

• Two Beachwood players — quarterback Jalen Minter and offensive lineman Marcus Moore — earned third-team D-V AllOhio status.

In D-IV:

• Malchesky was named first team after throwing for 1,033 yards and 13 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,577 yards and 14 scores for the state runner-up Cougars.

He is joined on first team by both of Lake’s standout inside linebackers, Ryan Joy and Simon Taraska, each of whom had more than 100 tackles this season.

• Perry’s Jaylen Anderson earned first-team status after running for 875 yards and catching 124 yards worth of passes this year — scoring a total of 15 touchdowns.

• Chagrin Falls tackle Nick Dalessandro is a firstteam selection, as well.

• Earning second-team D-IV All-Ohio were Lake offensive lineman Sean Gibbons and Chagrin linebacker Dawson Pierce.
