Riverside Schools is returning to in-person learning Jan. 11 in time for midterm-testing to begin.

Remote le a r n in g , wh ich started Nov. 16 due to an increase in positive novel coronavirus cases, concludes two weeks after the holidays, allowing “sufficient time for students and staff to conduct symptoms assessments,” according to the district.

“Ever y thing we’ve learned about (the virus) is that if you’re exposed to it, you’re supposed to monitor symptoms within a 10- to 15-day period,” said Superintendent James P. Kalis. “Going back on Jan 11 will give us 17 days from Christmas and 10 days from New Years Day. Students and staff should stay home if they are showing symptoms.”

T he d istr ic t also states that students in the Riverside Remote Learning Academy will continue with remote learning. Students who a re s w itching t heir learning option for the second semester w ill still follow their first semester schedules until the end of the semester, which is Jan. 14.

The district urges students and staff, upon return to in-person learning, to not le t their guard down in following all the safety protocols implemented back in September at the start of the school year. Face masks and desk shields as well as daily symptom-checks are vitally important.

Parents or guardians are urged to call the district nurse, Heidi Perry, at 440-358-8304, if their student or anyone in their household test positive for COVID-19.
