Lake County exceeds 500 stays
Cumulative hospitalizations continue to increase
Lake County has surpassed 500 cumulative novel coronavirus hospitalizations, according to the latest COVID-19 data report released by the Lake County General Health District.
As of 2 p.m. Jan. 5, the county has 505 cumulative COVID-19 hospitalizations. There 22 newly reported hospitalizations between Dec. 29 and Jan.5, down from 33 reported the week prior. It’s the third straight week the county has seen a decrease in hospitalizations.
The county saw a record high number of hospitalizations between Dec. 8 and Dec. 15 with 72. The following week there were 34 new hospitalizations reported, tying the previous high. There were 33 newly reported cases between Dec. 22-29 and then 22 this past week.
The 505 hospitalizations represent about 4 percent of Lake County’s total COVID-19 cases. The county has 73 cumulative ICU admissions, according to the health district’s data report.
The health district’s report states that 54 percent of those who have been hospitalized had pre -existing conditions. The average length of stay in the hospital is 6.5 days.
The average age of a person hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Lake County is 66 years old. The age 70-79 age group has seen the most hospitalizations with 135. There have been 121 for those age 80 and above.
Three new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in Lake County in the past week, bringing the county’s cumulative deaths to 123. Health officials say that the definitive cause of death can take weeks, even months to determine.
Seventy-eight of the 123 Lake County residents who have died from COVID-19 were age 80 or older. The age range of those who have died from the virus is 43101 s of 2 p.m. Jan. 5, Lake County had 13,437 cumulative COVID-19 cases. There were 1,045 newly reported COVID-19 cases between Dec. 29 and Jan. 5. That’s up from 927 reported the week prior. Of the 13,437 cumulative cases, the Ohio Department of Health presumes 10,845 have recovered.
ODH defines presumed recovered as those with a symptom onset date greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased.
According to ODH’s COVID-19 vaccination dashboard, vaccinations have been started for 2,419 Lake County residents (1.05 percent of the county’s population), as of Jan. 5. Statewide there have been 175,408 vaccinations star.ted, representing 1.5A percent of Ohio’s population.
