Police: man shot in carjacking

In search of at least two suspects at Willoughby Hills Towers scene

Willoughby Hills police are investigat­ing after a 65-year-old man was shot during an alleged carjacking Jan. 13 in the parking lot of Willoughby Hills Towers.

The Lake County Central Communicat­ions Center received 911 calls around 7:22 p.m. about multiple shots fired in the parking lot of the 27400 Chardon Road apartment complex, according to a news release from Willoughby Hills police.

Officers responded to the scene and found a 65-year-old man who had sustained a gunshot wound.

The department said at this time the injury is not believed to be life threatenin­g.

He was transporte­d to an area hospital by the Willoughby Hills Fire Department and is being treated.

The department stated early reports indicate that at least two suspects arrived at the apartment complex in a newer model, bright red pickup truck.

One of the suspects, described as a clean-shaven black male in his early 20s, allegedly approached the victim, who was standing by his own vehicle in the parking lot.

The suspect allegedly brandished a semi-automatic pistol, assaulted the victim and then shot him.

The suspect then allegedly entered the victim’s vehicle, described as a 2010 black Ford Fusion. He then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

The stolen car allegedly struck several vehicles in the parking lot, causing front end damage to the Ford. The red pickup also fled the scene.

Both vehicles reportedly fled east on Chardon Road toward the area of Bishop Road and Interstate 90.
