Hospice of the Western Reserve board chair named
William A. Herzberger, a partner in the Cleveland office of the global law firm Jones Day, has been elected chair of Hospice the Western Reserve’s
Board of Directors.
Board member Michael
Baach has been elected as vice chair and Mark Ross has been appointed treasurer, according to a news release
Herzberger leads the Real Estate practice in Jones Day’s Cleveland Office and has over 30 years of experience advising clients on complex commercial, industrial, mining, and multifamily real estate transactions.
He is also coordinator of the Cleveland office’s pro bono and community service activities.
He was born in Cleveland, raised in Rocky River and he and his family have lived in Avon Lake for the past 30 years.
“Will brings a deep understanding and passion for our organization and the services we provide across Northeast Ohio,” said President and CEO Bill Finn in the release. “His leadership will help Hospice of the Western Reserve continue to grow as our communities’ leading care option for those who are living with serious illness.”
A member of the board of directors since 2017, Herzberger has also served on the Development and Investment committees.
His direct involvement started with a personal experience.
“My mother was in their care,” he said in the release. “What a huge help they were. I quickly learned how little we know about how to handle those situations.”
Herzberger played an instrumental role in establishing the Piper Samuels Pediatric Hospice Endowment Fund, which honors the memory of a friend and law partner’s daughter, the release stated.
“Hospice of the Western Reserve provided outstanding support for the whole family during Piper’s final weeks of life,” he said.
“We are very fortunate to have an organization in our community that is capable of providing this highly specialized type of care.”
He views education and public engagement as key parts of his board leadership role.
“As a nonprofit, Hospice of the Western Reserve has to look to the community to help support its mission,” he explained.
