Q: What can I do to help prevent and treat maskne?
A: Our new normal requires us to wear masks regularly and in some cases, for long periods of time. While we are covering up our mouth and nose to prevent the spread of Covid, we are uncovering a new problem, maskne (Mask related acne). When you breath or talk, the mask tends to trap in the hot air, an ideal setting for bacteria to grow. The bacterial imbalance and friction from the mask can promote acne flare-ups. Washing your reusable mask frequently, cleaning your face with a foaming cleanser, applying a topical salicylic acid and a retinol at night will assist with combating the effects of maskne.
In addition to the topical skin care, a facial treatment called HydraFacial™ can assist in the prevention and treatment of maskne. The HydraFacial™ resurfacing procedure addresses all aspects of your skin’s health through a combination of cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and the addition of antioxidant protection. It is the trifecta of effective facial treatments, combining:
• The exfoliation and resurfacing of microdermabrasion.
• The skin renewal of a chemical peel.
• The hydration and extractions of a deep-cleansing facial.
• Patients leave a HydraFacial™ treatment with immediate results: clearer, soothed, moisturized, nonirritated, more beautiful skin.
The HydraFacial™ is designed and effective for most skin types, so the majority of women—and men can easily tolerate the treatment. The HydraFacial™ serums specifically target your skin issues to include maskne problems such blackheads, whiteheads, and acne. Another feature of the Hydrafacial is the blue light therapy. The blue LED light is extremely beneficial for people who suffer from oily skin or breakouts.
