Will be local resource, communication hub
Painesville Township is launching a user-friendly communication app for smartphone users.
The app, which is expected to be published in late February or early March, will contain quick links to local and national updates on the coronavirus pandemic, upcoming events, zoning resolutions and permit applications and contact information for Township departments and elected officials, according to township Trustee Josh Pennock.

between the township and residents is exchanged through various media like the township’s website and a Facebook page used to share real-time information. There also is a quarterly newsletter that is delivered to mailboxes throughout the township, which are archived on the website.
“The app contains much of the same information that can be found on our website, but in a much more user-friendly format for smartphone users,” Pennock said. “Similar to our website, the app will have a button for our residents to report a concern, but the app will have the added option to attach photographs.”
Residents can also sign up on the website to receive occasional emails from the township regarding scheduled events and important notifications, like the upcoming launch date for the app, Pennock explained.
“When installing the app, we encourage users to allow push notifications so we can share information on emergencies, road closures and water main breaks,” he said.
Working with a developer during the beta testing phase, the trustees hope to approve the app and send it over to app stores, like the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, for further review, approval and publishing, he explained.
“Realistically, I think we are looking at the end of the month or the beginning of March for a launch date,” he said. “We will be sure to get the word out to our residents using Facebook and an email blast.”
