Donations sought to help ailing rescue cat
Lake Humane Society is seeking funds to cover the medical costs of Paulie, a cat they recently brought in.
“When this gentle kitty arrived at LHS (from an unsanitary hoarding situation), he was lethargic, dehydrated, and very sick,” the Humane Society stated in a news release. “He could barely move from his blanket and his nose constantly drained pus.
“To make matters worse, many of his teeth were also infected, making it difficult for him to eat.”
Despite antibiotics, the infection continued and that led to dental surgery, additional antibiotics, and nasal flushing in the months that followed. But the infection continued and X-rays revealed the infection had spread to his lungs, the release stated.
The medical staff tested a sample of the pus, and it was discovered that Paulie has an uncommon bacterium that is resistant to typical treatment. Without proper treatment, this diagnosis is likely fatal.
The 5-year-old Paulie needs a long course of injectable antibiotics under strict medical supervision, the release stated. It will take at least eight weeks of this special treatment to see a marked improvement.
Paulie’s treatment will cost upwards of $700, the release stated.
Lake Humane Society needs help covering the costs of this expensive treatment. As a nonprofit organization, Lake Humane Society
relies on donations from the community to care for animals in need.
All donations made to this fundraising page will be designated to the Humane Society’s Angel Fund, and 100% of gifts will go toward Paulie’s care, the release stated. Once he has fully recovered, any excess funds will remain in the Angel Fund and be used to help the next animal in need of extensive or emergency medical care.
To make a donation, visit Paulie’s fundraising page or send donations made to Lake Humane Society to Lake Humane Society ATTN: Paulie Angel Fund, 7564 Tyler Blvd. Building E, Mentor, OH 44060.
Paulie’s treatment will cost upwards of $700, the release stated.
