CFO to retire, district appoints interim treasurer
Daniel Wilson, chief financial officer for Mentor Schools, will be retiring effective April 30 after 17 years in the position with the district.
“I have long believed that the title of chief financial officer carries a responsibility to add value to the district and I will always be proud of the innovative programs
I developed,” Wilson said in a news release. “Mentor has provided me with many career highlights, rewarding professional accomplishments and memories. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this great district.”
Mary Bryner, president of the Mentor School Board, commended Wilson’s contributions to the district, which included his department receiving 10 perfect audits from the state.
“The expertise and knowledge Mr. Wilson gained over his nearly 50-year career made him an invaluable leader and great advocate for Mentor Schools,” Bryner said.
“Even though careful and conservative fiscal management is always his top priority, Mr. Wilson never lost sight of the district’s No. 1 goal to provide a safe learning environment where students can grow academically, socially and emotionally,” she added. “As a board, we have appreciated his innovation to help us financially support our district goals.”
The board will soon begin a search for a new treasurer, but unanimously selected Steve Vasek as interim treasurer on Feb. 16.
Vasek, who has worked as a school treasurer for 34 years, will start his new position in late March to work along with Wilson to ensure a smooth transition.
The release stated that Vasek already has experience working with several Ohio school districts over his career, including Euclid, Gahanna-Jefferson, Kirtland and Rocky River.
He earned his master of business administration from University of Akron and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University.
