For the 33rd consecutive year, the City of Painesville Finance Department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
This award, presented by the Government Finance Officers Association, is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, according to a news release.
“On behalf of the city, I am honored to receive this award,” Painesville Finance Director Andy Unetic said in the release. “It is my professional desire to serve the city to the best of my ability for the benefit of its residents. I would also like to thank my staff for all of their efforts in helping the city achieve this award.”
The Certificate of Achievement was awarded for the annual financial report for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2019.
Apply for chance to hunt turkeys

Applicants must download and complete the application form and email it to info@geaugaparkdistrict.org to apply to participate.
Applications are due March 31 for the youth hunt taking place April 17 and 18, and are due April 14 for the regular hunt taking place May 1-9.
Hunters will be selected by random drawing and notified via email of their acceptance and hunt location, according to a news release. Permits will also be sent electronically.
Details about mailing or faxing applications can be found on the form as well.
“Spring turkey hunting season is approaching soon,” Ranger Mike Benesh said in the release. “This is a great opportunity for hunters of all ages to be able to get outside, enjoy the outdoors, and explore some of our undeveloped properties.”
Mentor, library promoting litter cleanup
The City of Mentor and Mentor Public Library have teamed to participate in the national Keep America Beautiful campaign this March and April. And they’re inviting everyone to keep Mentor beautiful too.
The library’s Headlands Branch is coordinating a citywide litter cleanup. All are invited to walk their neighborhood or visit one of the community’s parks and safely dispose of the litter they find there, according to a news release.
Everyone who registers with the library’s Headlands Branch and participates will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift card from Barnes & Noble.
While participation is open to everyone in the library’s service area, registration will be handled exclusively by its Headlands Branch. Either visit the branch at 4669 Corduroy Road, or call 440-257-2000 for safety guidelines, suggestions for places that need attention, and more details.
