Old Friends, New Twists & a Sprinkle of Glitz!

August 17-20 * 2019’s Applauded Mystery Trip!

-

The group who did this as a Mystery Trip LOVED it and said it needed to be on our regular schedule so others could experience it ~~ so here it is!! As they will tell you, it’s loaded with genuinely wonderful touring all the way through - you’ll want to add this to your list of 2021 travels! * “Old Friends is a heartwarming retirement and rescue facility for Thoroughbred elites, including Kentucky Derby winners. Rather than faced with a discarded, and often deplorable, end to their lives, Old Friends provides a dignified retirement to horses whose racing and breeding careers are over. You’ll fall in love with the amazing people who give faithful loving care to these beautiful creatures! * The beautiful town of Midway will find us enjoying an included lunch at Darlin’ Jeans before checking into our top-shelf hotel in Frankfort overlooking the KY River – the folks loved their stay here! * Visit 1847 Waveland with its columns & portico, 14-ft ceiling, and story of life on a Civil War plantation * “All Aboard” the Bluegrass RR for a ride on a vintage air-conditioned carriage – So Fun! * Dine at Science Hill in the finest KY tradition - learn of the renowned school for young ladies who came from all over the country in the 1800’s! * On the banks of the KY River sits impressive Glen Willis House – hear its compelling story and enjoy a lovely dinner in the historic surroundings with live Bluegrass music on the back porch! * Even the women enjoyed the Aviation Museum of KY (wink-wink!) – it is so well-done. See restored barnstormers, vintage airliners, historic warbirds and aircraft of today * An exceptional treat will be your dining experience at “The Glitz”. Ceilings bask in twinkling lights while grapevines and flowers tangle across the walls and a ‘glitzy’ black & mauve interior oozes elegance at every turn (this does require stairs) * Another highlight will be your evening at a Civil War Dinner Show at the ‘Elizabeth’. This 1849 historic church’s dining room was formerly the sanctuary * And last, but not least, you get to tour the Toyota Car Plant – a very unique experience! Ride the tram thru the impressive sections to learn of their production system, philosophies, and KY teamwork that contributes to its success * Tour & Tasting at ‘Country Boy Brewing” with lunch here, too * 3B, 3L, 3D * $870 p/p, double occ * $790 p/p, triple/quad * $1,030 single
