Captains, John Carroll announce partnership
The Captains have announced a radio partnership with John Carroll for its games, with JCU students earning the chance at real-world experience producing the High Single-A affiliate’s broadcasts.
The Captains have forged a new partnership to broadcast games in 2021.
April 6, the Indians’ High Single-A affiliate announced John Carroll University’s student radio station will be home for Captains games. WJCU.org is the official flagship broadcast home.
Every Captains broadcast during the 2021 season will be produced from the WJCU studios and streamed live on WJCU.org with Captains play-by-play broadcasters Andrew Luftglass and Brian McLaughlin. The Captains will make all streaming links available on CaptainsBaseball.com.
“We are excited to begin working with John Carroll University and WJCU this season,” said Luftglass, Captains’ manager of broadcasting, media relations and social media. “This partnership will help us produce a high quality broadcast for Captains fans every single game and we hope it will also provide a valuable educational experience for the university.”
As part of the deal, the Captains will select one student to join the broadcast team as their radio broadcast producer. The goal is for that student to get hands-on experience in producing professional baseball broadcasts, contribute to the broadcasts as well as in the Captains’ front office.
“This partnership will provide tremendous opportunities for John Carroll students to gain realworld experience producing a professional-quality broadcast,” said Jasen Sokol, director for WJCU. “We’re excited to bring a new era of Captains Baseball to fans across Northeast Ohio.”
Lake County’s season begins May 4 with a six-game series at Lansing. The Captains’ home opener at Classic Park is scheduled for May 11 against Fort Wayne.
More information about COVID-19 protocols for fans, tickets, promotions and the team’s roster will be announced in the coming weeks.
