Prince Philip, husband to British queen, dies

Prince Philip, the irascible and tough-minded husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died, Buckingham Palace said Friday.

Bernard J. “Bernie” Journey age 85 of Mentor, passed away Monday April 5, 2021 at Tri-Point Medical Center, Concord, OH. He was born July 10, 1935 in Cambridge, OH.

Mr. Journey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he would tell you he shook hands with Elvis Presley himself. He was a retired inspector for the former General Motors, Fisher Body, Euclid Plant.

Bernie enjoyed sports , playing cards, dancing to Polkas, and always wanted to E.A.T. As a lifelong lover of Baseball, he had a chance to play in the “Field of Dreams” as a center fielder for the Detroit Tigers. If you every met Bernie Journey, he probably would have told you that Bernard in Polish was “betternot and you betternot forget it”. Bernie was a loving Father and Husband, the grumpiest Grandpa, and a great friend to all he met.

Survivors include wife of 55 Years: Suzanne Journey, children: Katherine “Katie” (Joseph) Perdue, Karla (Denise Debratto) Journey-Debratto, Bernard “Bernie” David Journey, grandchild­ren: Megan and Kelley McDonnell, Matthew and Madeline Perdue.

Preceding Bernie in death are his parents: John and Catherine Dziorney and 8 siblings: John, Mary, Anna, Nick, Pete, Steve, Vincent, and Veronica.

Friends will be received from 1:00- 4:00 pm, on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.

A funeral mass will be 9:30 am Monday, April 12, 2021 at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd. Mentor, OH. 44060. Please meet at the church. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged during all publicly attended events.

Burial with US Army Military Honors will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterlan­d, OH for immediate family only.

The family request contributi­ons may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
