Environmen­tal workshop set for volunteers in April

Scholarshi­ps are now available for the Geauga and Portage Soil and Water Conservati­on Districts’ unique summer workshop for educators.

The Advanced Wonders of Watersheds is a threeday program that investigat­es water quality, land use issues, and the area’s link to the Lake Erie Basin. The workshop begins with a virtual day on June 24 before heading to Huron, Ohio, for in-person field days June 28-29 at Old Woman Creek National Estuary.

One to two graduate credits are available through Ashland University.

The registrati­on fee for this workshop is $275 and covers the cost of all expenses excluding graduate credits.

To qualify for the scholarshi­p, applicants must be currently teaching in Geauga County and all grade levels are welcome to apply. Scholarshi­p covers the full registrati­on cost including all materials, meals, and lodging.

Hospice plans training

Hospice of the Western Reserve announced its next round of volunteer training.

The virtual volunteer training series is held on Mondays and Wednesdays April 19, 21, 26, and 28 from 9 a.m. to noon.

“Our Hospice and Western Reserve Navigator programs provide support to individual­s who are facing a life limiting or terminal illness wherever they consider home,” the organizati­on said in a news release. “Volunteers are an essential part of the clinical team. Now, more than ever, volunteers are needed to support patients through phone calls, sending cards, and virtual visits.”
