James “Jim” M. Braemer, age 72, of Fairport Harbor passed away peacefully Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Homestead II Nursing Home in Painesvill­e. Born on June 5, 1948 in Painesvill­e, OH to parents Robert and Lillian Braemer.

Jim is a 1966 graduate of Fairport Harbor High School. On May 17, 2002, he married his sweetheart Linda (Cederlund) Braemer at the Zion Lutheran Church. Jim proudly gave 39 years of his life to the United States Marine Corps and the Reserves, and he also served on the Painesvill­e City Fire Department for 28 years. Jim was a man who wore many hats, and he loved his country. He worked his way to be Captain and he was also a Paramedic with Painesvill­e City. He also worked part-time for the Fairport Fire Department. At one time, he was the only Paramedic on the department. Jim also served on the Painesvill­e Sheriff Dept. Dive Team for 13 years. Jim was a lifetime member of the Lake County Rod and Gun Club in Madison, OH. His greatest pleasure was spending time there where he had a camper. He was a huge gun enthusiast and enjoyed target shooting out at the club with his partners in crime, Albie Barbosky and Niles Oinonen. Jim was a lifelong member of VFW Post 7754 in Fairport and Hungarian Culture Club in Fairport. He loved his faith and his church, Zion Lutheran in Fairport. He spent many many hours there doing Gods’ work, which was just about everything, too numerous to mention. Jim was quite the jokester and storytelle­r. Jim was a warrior and will be greatly missed by all, especially his loving family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Cederlund) Braemer; his children: Laurie (Jeff) Hogya, Jeffrey (Lisa) Braemer, Jamie Sadler, and Shannon (Brian) Steele; his beautiful grandchild­ren: Christophe­r (Melissa), Nicholas (Alicia), Bryson, Sierra, Garett, Lexi, Joey, Morgan, Beyla, and JJ; and his great grandchild­ren: Declan, Jacob, Brooklyn, Liam, and soon to arrive (in June) is baby Cecilia. Jim is also survived by his siblings: Nancy (Mike) Rebenock and Jane (Fred) Doerrige; many loving nieces and nephews; and Cheryl Braemer.

A Visitation is planned for Wednesday, April 21, from 4pm-8pm at the Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Eagle Street, Fairport, OH. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, April 22 at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at 11am. A reception will immediatel­y follow to celebrate and remember Jim’s life at the Fairport VFW Post 7754, 540 New Street, Fairport Harbor, OH. Masks and appropriat­e social distancing are required by the church and VFW. Memorial donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Fairport Zion Lutheran Church or the Fairport Harbor Fire Dept.
