The City of Eastlake is looking forward to its planned summer happenings and Lake County Captains baseball, which will be starting May 11.

“Thank God. I think capacity is still at 30%, but residents of the City of Eastlake can come in and register to win tickets starting in May,” said Judy Moran, administrative assistant to the mayor and fire chief of the City of Eastlake.

Additionally, Moran is working with city Service Director Nick Rubertino to bring back the Junk in the Trunk sale, which has not been done in a few years.

“It’s more of a flea market type deal as opposed to our regular market,” Moran said. “It’s bring your stuff, earn some cash and have fun.”

The event will run June 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Set up will be at 7:30 a.m. For vendors, the trunk sale is $15 for two spaces at the city lot. For those interested in registering, they may call Moran at 440-951-2200 ext. 1001.

“You can come and set up your car right next to your tables and stuff, so you can work out of your car if you need to,” Moran said.

Eastlake’s car shows will be starting up on Thursdays behind City Hall, with the first being scheduled for May 20. Cars start rolling in at 4 p.m. and they stay until dark. There will be a DJ, and a food and ice cream truck for patrons.

“They’ve been doing that for several years now,” Moran said. “(Local hot rod enthusiast and show organizer) Ron Dustman does a great job.”

Last year, Eastlake’s Memorial Day service was canceled in light of the novel coronavirus. This year, the service will take place at the Boulevard of 500 Flags at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day.

The city’s Miracle League will also open July 31. The Miracle League of Lake County is a fully accessible baseball park and play ground for children and youths with physical and mental disabilities.

“We had no season last year, which was heartbreaking to all those kids,” Moran said. “I’m very excited to get that up and running again because they’re all chomping at the bit to come back.”
