Experimental Aviation Association Chapter 5 now enrolling
Experimental Aviation Association Chapter 5 announced enrollment is now open for its annual weeklong day camp for middle school students — those going into grades 6 through 10 — who are interested in flying.
The EAA Chapter 5 Summer Youth Aviation Camp will take place June 14 to 18 for new campers in Hangar 3 at the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield Township. The sessions will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Students will actively participate in learning about aerodynamics, parts of a plane, the engine, flight operations, careers in aviation; will develop skills in map reading, riveting, woodworking and building; and will be given opportunities to tour the airport facilities and to “fly” on flight simulators, according to a news release.
There will be daily activities such as glider flying contests and scientific experimentation, as well as recreational activities. After the camp, there will be an opportunity for campers to take a Young Eagle Flight on June 19.
Space in the camp is limited to 18 students to allow for more hands-on opportunities and to allow for appropriate coronavirus protocols, the release stated. Registration forms and $150 fee are due by May 7.
A T-shirt, hat and supplies are included; participants should bring their own lunch though snacks will be provided.
Scholarships are available as are corporate sponsorship positions.
