Madison Garden Club takes home honors

The Garden Club of Ohio, Inc. recently announced the winning awards for 2020 to the Ohio Garden clubs.

Madison Garden Club, which is in the Cleveland District, was recognized as first-place recipients in the following categories: Community Service award, Civic Beautification award and Civic Improvement award.

A second place was given for its Holiday Project award.

In spite of not holding meetings due to COVID-19, members continued to move safely forward with many community beautification projects. The club did 50 Village hanging baskets, two large Veterans Park pots of flowers, 14 fall mums in ground, new plants added to the library butterfly garden, three gigantic , according to a release from the club.

“Perhaps the most notable community involvement was membership unsolicited, being proactive and personal gestures of goodwill. Our members served their families and community. Over 400 masks were sewn and donated to family, friends and frontline workers. Helping nurses by watching their children as they worked long extended hours at the hospital. The donation of fresh garden produce to neighbors who were shut in. Many members donated money, food, time phoning to check on others, caring for neighbors, walking their pets, picking up groceries curbside, etc. during the pandemic to ease anxiety and let others know they care,” the release stated.

The Madison Garden Club was established in 1955 with the objective to stimulate interest in gardening, as well as the beautification of its community. If you would like to help Madison Garden Club continue to fulfill its objective, consider joining the group. You don’t have to live in Madison, and the club welcomes men and women.
