Wolstein Center to offer J&J vaccine
The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered at the Wolstein Center May 11-17.
The single-dose Johnson & Johnson novel coronavirus vaccine will be administered at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center May 11-17, Gov. Mike DeWine announced May 6.
The vaccine is available to those 18 and older. The clinic, located at 2000 Prospect Ave. E, is accepting walk-ins 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments can also be booked online at gettheshot.coronavirus. ohio.gov or by calling 833-4275634.
The mass vaccination clinic, which is operating in partnership between the state of Ohio, Federal Emergency Management Agency, City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and Cleveland State University, launched in midMarch.
In its first six weeks of operations, more than 237,000 first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine were administered, according to a news release from DeWine’s office.
The clinic is continuing to offer first doses of the Pfizer vaccine to anyone age 16 and older through May 10.
Second doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered beginning May 18 for those who received their first doses of the vaccine at the Wolstein Center in late April and early May.
Administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was paused in Ohio in April as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization conducted a thorough review of the extremely rare blood-clotting events reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.
The CDC and Food and Drug Administration allowed use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to resume on April 23 after comprehensive analysis found that the benefits of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine outweigh the risks, according to the news release. Providers in Ohio were permitted to immediately resume administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine provided they continue to follow all guidance by the CDC and FDA.
The Wolstein Center clinic may extend beyond May 31 if demand for vaccines in a mass vaccination setting warrants that the clinic continue, the news release stated.
