CMA a great spot for a Mother’s Day visit, spokesperson says
What’s a more appropriate Mother’s Day excursion than a visit to see works of art with the woman whose value is priceless in life.
That’s exactly the message the Cleveland Museum of Art is advertising for families looking for a special Mother’s Day experience.
“We want people to come out with their families and enjoy Mother’s Day at the Cleveland Museum of Art,” Communications and Media Relations Manager Kelley Notaro Schreiber said.
“There’s so much for people to do together. Also, I’m hearing from some people this is part of their Mother’s Day family tradition. We’re so excited to hear that. And if it’s not your family tradition, give us a shot this year and see what we have to offer.”
Located in the University Circle neighborhood, the Cleveland Museum of Art is renowned for the quality and breadth of its collection, which includes more than 63,000 artworks and spans 6,000 years of achievement in the arts.
In terms of temporary exhibitions, offerings begin with “Stories in Storage,” which closes on May 16. The display showcases 20 personal stories by museum curators.
There’s also the “Bruce Davidson: Brooklyn Gang,” which dates from the 1950s, when the photographer spent several months shooting a teenage street gang in New York City.
In addition to “Gustave Baumann: Colorful Cuts,” which celebrates the 2005 gift of 65 color woodcuts and 65 drawings by the American printmaker and painter to the Cleveland Museum of Art, there’s also the “Variations: The Reuse of Models in Paintings by Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi.”
“We’ve created a safe space for people. We have a really large venue, so there’s room to move around and for people to feel comfortable browsing the galleries.” — Communications and Media Relations Manager Kelley Notaro Schreiber
Another exhibit is “Fashioning Identity: Mola Textiles of Panamá,” which features handsewn cotton blossoms produced by women of Panamá.
“We’ve just reopened our contemporary art galleries,” Schreiber said. “We reinstalled them, celebrating works by women artists and artists of color. In addition to that, after browsing the galleries you can visit our Provenance Café and grab some lunch.
“We have our beautiful fine arts garden, which features tree-lined walkways and sculpture. Also, last summer we finished our Smith Family Gateway,
which is a park on the west side of the building featuring landscaping. Our outside campus is just as beautiful as the inside of the building.”
As far as safety protocols related to the pandemic, Schreiber said CMA encourages free online reservations. There will also be temperature checks for arriving visitors, who are asked to wear masks.
“We’re seeing people wanting to come out and enjoy the museum,” Schreiber said. “We’ve created a safe space for people. We have a really large venue, so there’s room to move around and for people to feel comfortable browsing the galleries.
“That’s why it’s the perfect Mother’s Day idea. Plus, it’s free, so it’s affordable for everybody.”
