Madison Public Library starting ‘Talking Tech’ online show

Madison Public Library announced it will be offering a new service — “Talking Tech” where Shawn and Charley solve real-life tech issues live online. Whatever the issue — laptop concerns, software updates, even trouble with a cell phone or tablet — the library wants to help, said Shawn Walsh, its emerging services and technologies librarian, in a news release. Walsh works with Charley Barnicoat, the library’s Guiding Ohio Online technology trainer, to answer people’s questions and to discuss technology news and events. Coming up, “Talking Tech” will be on Facebook Live and Twitch at 7 p.m., May 12, June 16 and July 14. The series will be similar to “Car Talk” where “Click and Clack” solved real-life auto issues live on the radio. “Charley and I have a good time discussing all things technology,” Walsh said in the release. “We love the idea of people listening in and asking us their questions live.” People can submit questions online during the event or in advance via email to shawn.walsh@ madison-library.info or by calling 440-428-2189. Separately, people also can schedule one-on-one sessions at the library to get their technology questions answered or to learn how to do something new from email to eBay, Walsh added. “It’s our job to help people understand that libraries are so much more than books and movies,” Walsh said. “We try to stay ahead of the tech curve to help others navigate it, because technology is so much a part of today’s world.” Guiding Ohio Online is a grant that helps libraries in rural Ohio to hire dedicated technology staff. It is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio. Madison library has received the grant four times.
