40% of Lake Countians are fully vaccinated

More than 40 percent of Lake County residents have completed their novel coronaviru­s vaccine shots, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health.

As of May 11, 40.54 percent of Lake County residents (93,305 people) have received either both shots of the Pfizer/Moderna vaccines or the single shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

There were 4,792 Lake County residents who completed their COVID-19 vaccines on May 7 according to ODH data, the highest single-day figure to date. On that day, those who received their first shot during the first Lakeland Community College mass vaccinatio­n clinic held April 7 received their second dose.

The May 7 total surpassed the previous high that was set April 24 when 4,624 Lake County residents completed their shots. Those who received their first shot during the March 31 mass vaccinatio­n clinic at Mentor High School received their second shot on that date.

Statewide, more than 4.2 million people have completed the vaccinatio­n process, representi­ng 36.15 percent of Ohio’s population.

According to ODH data, there have been 110,501 Lake County residents (48.01 percent) who have started the vaccine process as of May 11. Statewide, more than 4.88 million people have started the vaccine process, representi­ng 41.75 percent of Ohio’s population.

Lake County saw a slight increase in new weekly coronaviru­s cases, according

to ODH data. There were 207 newly reported cases between May 4-11, up from 200 reported cases the week prior.

As of 2 p.m. May 11, Lake County has 20,725 cumulative COVID-19 cases. ODH presumes that 19,776 Lake County residents have recovered. ODH defines presumed recovered as those with a symptom onset date greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased.

As of 2 p.m. May 11, Lake County had 799 COVID-19 hospitaliz­ations, with nine new hospitaliz­ations reported in the past week, according to ODH data. The county has 369 COVID-19 deaths as of that date, according to ODH, with one new death reported in the

past week. Definitive cause of death can take weeks to months to determine.

The Lake County General Health District is now offering vaccinatio­ns at its 5966 Heisley Road, Mentor, office on select dates.

According to the health district, the clinics will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointmen­ts can be made on ArmorVax (search Mentor, OH 44060), and walk-ins are also welcome.

All three vaccine types will be available, though only the Pfizer vaccine is available for 16- and 17-year-olds. Second-dose appointmen­ts (if applicable) will be arranged at the time of the first dose.

The clinic dates are May 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 27.

There are also multiple mobile vaccinatio­n clinics upcoming, according to the health district. Those interested can register on ArmorVax and walk-ins are also welcome. The brand of vaccine available during these clinics is still to be determined.

The mobile clinic dates are as follows:

• Jackson Towers, 200 W. Jackson St., Painesvill­e, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 18

• Washington Square, Painesvill­e, 2 to 4 p.m., May 18

• Lake County Free Clinic, 125 E. Erie St. Painesvill­e, 1 to 4 p.m., May 19

• Woodlawn Homes, 553 Sanders Ave., Painesvill­e, 1 to 4 p.m., May 20.
