Grace Fisher pitched a onehit shutout, striking out 17, as third-seeded Riverside shut out visiting Mayfield, 6-0, in a Division I sectional final on May 12. The 30th-seeded Wildcats (7-15) upset Lakeside earlier this week, but their WRC foes were a bigger problem this time around. Delaney Keith drove in a pair of runs for Riverside (21-2) Emily Lamos had an RBI hit as well for the Beavers.
Riverside advances to the Mentor District, where it will face seventh-seeded New Philadelphia at 5 p.m. on May 17in a district semifinal.
• The Alyssa Lavdis Express rolled on, with Lavdis pitching a 2-0 shutout for Madison over Massillon Jackson in a Division I sectional final.
The 15th-seeded Blue Streaks (13-7) advance to the Mentor District, where they will play second-seeded Walsh Jesuit at 2 p.m. on May 17.
• Bella Carcioppolo ripped an RBI hit in the top of the seventh inning, but that’s all the offense Mentor could manage in a 5-1loss to Boardman in a Division I sectional final in Youngstown.
Leah Temple pitched a four-hitter, but came up on the short end of the decision.
Mentor (17-6) was ousted from the tournament, while 10th-seeded Boardman advances to the Austintown District semifinal to face fifth-seeded North Canton Hoover on May 17.
• Jess Dodd had an RBI double for North, but the ninth-seeded Rangers lost to visiting Uniontown Lake, 11-3, in a Division I sectional final.
North (12-6) had a 2-0lead before Uniontown Lake scored one in the third and six in the fourth to take control of the game. Lake now moves on to face sixth-seeded Green in the Massillon District tournament.
• South, seeded 13th, lost a Division I sectional final to visiting Hudson, 7-2. With the win, 14th-seeded Hudson advances to the Massillon District to face fourth-seeded Massillon Perry on May 17. • Sixth-seeded Andrews Osborne lost to thirdseeded Mogadore, 20-0, in a Division IV sectional final on May 12. Mogadore moves on to face secondseeded Hillsdale in a district final next week. • Top-seeded Cuyahoga Heights advanced to the Richfield Division I district tournament after Cornerstone Christian “no-contested” its scheduled game with the Redskins on May 12.
