Geauga County plans more senior trash pick ups

-

The Geauga County Department on Aging has announced the next round of assistance for senior citizens who have unwanted items that need to be picked up at their home during the trash pick-up days

First, residents of the scheduled communities should register at 440-2792129 by the cut off day or earlier, according to a news release.

Once registered, seniors can be placed on the trash pick-up roster. To receive trash pick-up assistance, people must be 60 years of age or older and live in the village or township.

Local road crews and representatives from the Department on Aging will pick up the refuse from a garage, outbuilding or driveway and take it to the collection site.

The staff cannot enter homes so items should be placed outside the home the night before the pickup. However, do not leave items curb side.

The following are the upcoming pick-up days and the cut-off dates to register:

• Middlefield Village — May 27. Cut-off day to sign up is May 20

• Chardon Township — June 2 and 3. Cut-off day to sign up is May 26

• Auburn Township — June 3 and 4. Cut-off day to sign up is May 27

• Newbury Township — June 7 and 8. Cut-off day to sign up is June 1.

For guidelines on the pick-up and to register, call the Department on Aging weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 440-279-2129, or 440-279-2130.

Only registered seniors can be placed on the pickup list and those signing up for pick-up are asked to have a list of items needing removed, the release stated.
