Garfield National Historic Site plans limited reopening

-

James A. Garfield National Historic Site has announced its summer operating hours and a limited reopening of the Garfield home, beginning June 1.

Summer hours will be seven days per week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to a news release.

The Garfield home will be re-opened for reservation-only guided tours. CDC and Ohio Department of Health restrictions are still in effect, so masks will be required and tours will be limited to one per hour from 10:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. until further notice, the release stated.

A maximum of seven visitors will be permitted per tour, and only one tour at a time will be allowed inside the home. Reservations must be made by phoning the site at 440255-8722.

The phone line will be staffed daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning June 1.

The entrance fee is $10 per person for those 16 and over and free for those 15 and under. This includes touring the home.

Holders of the America the Beautiful-National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Pass, including the Annual, Senior, Active Military, and Access Passes are admitted free of charge, along with three other adult guests.

The visitor center museum, grounds, and park film are available to all free of charge.

“We’re excited to get back to seven-day-aweek operations and to start safely taking small groups back into the Garfield home,” Site Manager

Todd Arrington said in the release. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we try to balance taking visitors into the home with the required safety precautions.”

James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.
