Firelands Regional Health System has announced a new walk-in urgent care focusing on orthopedic injuries.

Firelands Physician Group Ortho Express will be located at 1401 Bone Creek Drive in Sandusky and is slated to open in June. Firelands Ortho Express aims to provide costeffective, immediate care for injuries such as sprains and fractures with state-ofthe-art technology, including on-site X-ray, according to a news release.

Firelands Ortho Express is best for non-emergent injuries that need to be diagnosed and treated quickly, rather than waiting for an appointment with a primary care physician or experiencing a costly emergency room visit, the release stated.

Firelands Ortho Express recommends visiting for those who need immediate care now for one of the following reasons: fractures, broken bones, strains, sprains, falls, arm or leg injuries, twisted ankles, and hand injuries.

“Ortho Express will be bringing a new type of orthopedic care to the region, and I am thrilled to be a part of it,” Dr. Thomas Olexa of the Firelands Physician Group said in the release. “Firelands Regional Health System strives to provide top-of-the-line healthcare, and this new clinic is one step in the greater plan to do so.”

Clinic hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

While Firelands Physician Group Ortho Express will treat a wide range of orthopedic injuries, not every injury can be treated here. Patients will need to visit Firelands emergency room for serious or lifethreatening problems.

Here is a list of some of the injuries that are not treated: open wounds and animal bites, head, back, neck, and spinal trauma, hip fractures and broken ribs.
