Plans call for more than $90K in contracts with two companies

Madison Village has taken the steps needed to add a new truck to its Road Department fleet.

Village Council recently approved legislation to acquire a 2022 Ford Model F-550 truck chassis and plow equipment package through a fiveyear lease-purchase agreement.

Plans call for the village to purchase the truck chassis, which includes a cab, engine, drive train and frame, from Preston Ford Inc. of Burton Village for $47,632. The village also will enter into separate contract with Cerni Motor Sales, doing business as Trivista Equipment. The company, which has various Ohio locations, will sell a plow equipment package to Madison Village for about $44,844.

Overall, the two contracts total approximately $92,476. But the village will defray the cost by trading in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 350 Dump Truck to Preston Ford Inc. for $13,865 and putting down a $10,000 down payment on the new Ford Model F-550.

To finance the two purchases, Village Council approved a lease-purchase agreement for about $68,806 with the American Financial Network. The village will make annual lump-sum payments of $15,115 for five years, and then become the outright owner the truck.

Mayor Sam Britton said it’s projected that the fully equipped truck could be ready for delivery by October.

The village had intended to make a similar acquisition of a Ford F-550 earlier this year, but council didn’t get a chance to act on the required legislation. That’s because Ford Motor Co. had temporarily halted production of F550s and other trucks because of a scarcity of semiconductors, which also are known as chips.

Auto manufacturers use semiconductors for vehicle functions ranging from power steering and brake sensors to parking cameras and calibrating fuel injection.
