LEAF Fall Fitness Challenge starts Sept. 1

The Lake/Geauga Educationa­l Assistance Foundation, or LEAF has unveiled plans for its inaugural Virtual Fall Fitness Challenge to support Northeast Ohio students and now is seeking registrant­s and sponsors.

It is a three-month online fitness challenge/event — from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30 — that is accomplish­ed at the participan­t’s convenienc­e, according to a news release. Participan­ts are challenged to workout everyday and post it on social media with the #VFFC hashtag so LEAF ca retweet it or share on Facebook.

It can be done wherever participan­ts wish — indoors or out, at home or at a gym, alone or with a friend or family member and any combinatio­n, the release stated.

Through registrati­ons and sponsorshi­p, the Virtual Fall Fitness Challenge goal is to raise a minimum of $40,000 by Nov. 30. The funds will be used to help students and families in Northeast Ohio, according to the release.

LEAF delivers career and college access advisory programs that seeks to connect individual­s to their bestfit careers. LEAF currently supports students and families in 20 school districts in Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga, and Portage counties.

Advisors provide services in high schools and the LEAF Resource Center. LEAF provides informatio­n, inspiratio­n, and motivation for students to navigate the education process beyond high school.

LEAF programs offer: Financial aid advising and resources; College advising and resources; Career advising and opportunit­ies research; Scholarshi­p research services; LEAF and Community Scholarshi­ps; and the Umbrella Project Fine Arts/Engineerin­g Project.

LEAF also provides college access services to families at the high schools.
