Library accepting donated items for book sale
Friends group offers annual opportunity as fundraiser
Madison Public Library announced it will accept donated books, recent magazines, movies and video games the week of Aug. 30 in preparation for the fall book sale taking place Sept. 9-11.
The Friends of Madison Public Library, a nonprofit group that works to support the library, will accept donations during regular library hours starting Aug. 30.
“We know a lot of people clean out their attics and bookshelves as the seasons change,” library directors Dee Culbertson stated in a news release. “We are grateful for people who think to donate their items to us.”
Donations are evaluated and either put into the book sale or added to the library collection, she added.
“We prefer items that are in good shape,” Culbertson said. “We can’t accept old encyclopedias, magazine collections or anything musty or moldy.”
The book sale starts with a special preview night for Friends group members from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 8. Anyone can join the Friends for a $5 donation for an individual or $10 donation for a family, the release stated.
The sale will continue for the public during regular library hours, Sept. 9-11.
Starting Sept. 7, the library will be open for extended hours — 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Prior to that, the library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, noon to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
