Outlook
The determining factor in Beachwood’s success this season is going to come down to their conditioning. With a smaller roster than in years past, numerous players are playing both ways. First-year head coach Van Monroe has made sure his team is in the best shape possible. A large number of players will take to the field for the first time at the varsity level on Week 1. While inexperienced, the Bison players are showing great maturity and stepping up when called upon and following the example set by Nzekwe.
Player to watch
Uzonna Nzekwe is the lone returning starter from last season. Playing on the offensive and defensive line, Nzekwe has not just become a leader for those groups of players, but the whole team. Underclassman to watch: MarQuis Pinkney has stepped into the QB position, as well as a few other positions on offense when called upon. He will also play safety for the Bison. His versatility can be a major asset for Beachwood as the season progresses.
Bottom line
Beachwood’s youth continues to develop during the season, THEN: The Bison can play spoiler in the CVC Valley title race. — Benjamin Hercik
