Just the facts
Conference: Crown Conference
OHSAA: Division III, Region 9
Coach: Andrew Mooney, seventh year (3925 record)
2020: 4-4
Twitter: @NDCL_Football
Home field: Lozick Field at Lion Stadium
Outlook
NDCL brings back its entire secondary, quarterback, and three of starting offensive linemen from last season. Even with a slew of returning players, there are a plethora of new names, as well. The offensive line has to protect dual-threat quarterback Jacob Koenig, and will look to third-year starter Bryan Taylor to anchor the line, but at left tackle rather than center where he was the last two seasons. With the secondary back from last season, a young front seven will rely on them not just in the passing game, but also in the run game.
Player to watch
Jacob Koenig is the first returning quarterback for the Lions since Mooney took over the program.
Koenig comes off a season in which he threw for 750 yards and seven touchdowns. The Lions won’t be just relying on his throwing, but also his ability to run and avoid pressure when the pocket collapses. Underclassman to watch: Matt Urda played a lot of snaps as a sophomore as one of the inside linebackers, and takes over one of the starting roles this season. Operating as a quarterback for the defense, his experience on the defensive side of the ball will be key for the front seven.
Bottom line
IF: The offensive line can live up to expectations; THEN: The Lions can finish in the top half of the Crown conference.
