Beachwood opener vs. Orange canceled
The Beachwood football season-opener against Orange, scheduled for Aug. 20, has been canceled because of COVID-19 precautions.
Beachwood Athletic Director Ryan Peters confirmed to The News-Herald early in the afternoon on Aug. 20 that the Bison would not be playing the Lions later in the evening.
The game was supposed to be Beachwood’s season and home opener.
“Unfortunately tonight’s game was canceled as a result of COVID-19 safety precautions,” Peters said in an emailed response to The News-Herald.
Orange posted a notice on its school website confirming the cancellation as well as information on a make-up game the Lions were able to find to replace the game against Beachwood.
“Orange High School recently received notification from Beachwood High School that this evening’s varsity football game is cancelled due to a suspected COVID case on the Beachwood H.S. team,” the notice read.
“In order to provide an opportunity for OHS student-athletes to compete, OHS will now be playing at Toronto (OH) High School at 7:30 p.m.”
“We apologize for any inconvenience this change may create, however we are happy that our students will still have the opportunity to compete in the game and participate in Marching Band, Lionettes, and Cheer. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $6. The address to the stadium: 1200 North River Ave., Toronto, OH 43964.”
There was no further information available on the status of Beachwood’s Week 2 game scheduled for Aug. 27 against John Marshall.
