Second man pleads guilty in shooting

Daylonta Jones pleads to charges stemming from woman’s death in Euclid

The second suspect in an October 2020 Euclid murder case has pleaded guilty.

Daylonta Jones, 21, of Cleveland pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from the Oct. 2 death of Shalaymiah Moore.

Moore, 34, of East Cleveland, was shot in the back during an attempted robbery in the area of Lake Shore Boulevard and East 204th Street, according to Euclid police records. Moore died at University Hospitals Medical Center in Cleveland, according to Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office records.

Jones pleaded guilty to firstdegree felony involuntary manslaughter, first-degree felony aggravated robbery and second-degree felony felonious assault.

His Aug. 24 change of plea comes days after his co-defendant, 22-year-old Curtis Gatheright of Cleveland pleaded guilty to unclassified felony aggravated murder, first-degree felony aggravated robbery and second-degree felony felonious assault.

Both men are scheduled to be sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge David T. Matia on Sept. 21.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, Gatheright and Jones spotted Moore sitting in her vehicle with a friend. They exited their vehicle and approached her car in an attempt to rob them.

When Moore tried to drive away, shots were fired and she was struck once in the back as she crashed into a parked truck nearby. Gatheright and Jones returned to their vehicle and drove off.

Gatheright was arrested Oct. 5 and Jones was arrested Oct. 6 following a Euclid Police Department investigation.

“This senseless homicide is just another example of the wave of gun violence that is surging in our county,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley said in a statement following Gatheright's guilty plea.

“This victim was a wonderful mom, daughter, and friend to many in our community.”
