A fall tradition in Fairport Harbor will return after a one-year absence.

Fairport Harbor Community Day is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 26. Festivities will take place in the village’s Memorial Park, located on Third Street between Plum and Eagle streets.

Sponsored by the Fairport Harbor Civic Club, Community Day features not only food, games and entertainment, but also an opportunity for nonprofit organizations and businesses to connect with residents and visitors to the village.

“This event is a great way for the community to come together, raise funds for their group and get to see all the things our beach town can offer,” said Fairport Harbor Civic Club President Karen Bidlack.

The club canceled its Community Day program in 2020 — which also marked the organization’s 85th anniversary — because of health and safety risks posed by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

This year’s Community Day kicks off at noon with Fairport Harbor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7754 raising the flag, accompanied by music from the Fairport Harding High School band.

Other highlights of the festival include raffles, crafts, food trucks, music by DJ Wild Bill McCabe, and the Fairport Harbor Civic Club selling its famous Italian sausages.

Nonprofit organizations, such as schools, churches and clubs, can set up a table or booth free of charge at Community Day. Businesses desiring to secure space at the event are required to make a $25 donation to the Fairport Harbor Civic Club.

Bidlack said Community Day always is planned to coincide with Fairport Harding High School’s Homecoming Weekend.

“We welcome any graduating class to recognize their class at Community

Day,” she said.

A deadline of Sept. 20 has been set for nonprofit organizations and businesses that want to apply to participate at the 2021 Community Day. To obtain an application, or ask other questions about the Community Day celebration, contact Karen Bidlack at 440-251-3150 or fpttwin@gmail.com.
