Poster Contest underway

Youth could win $25 locally, and $5K internatio­nally

Area youths are invited to create their own work of art for the North Coast Lions Club Internatio­nal Peace Poster Contest.

The local winner will receive a $25 cash prize and have a chance to compete in the district and possibly internatio­nal competitio­n to win $5,000, according to a news release.

The Lions’ 2021-2022 contest seeks to inspire young people to showcase their talent and vision, and to creatively express what peace means to them, with this year’s theme “We Are All Connected.”

For over three decades, Lions clubs around the world have been sponsoring art contests in schools and youth groups.

This year, while overcoming new challenges brought on by the pandemic, the Lions are celebratin­g the things that keep people connected — to each other, to our communitie­s, all together around the world, the release stated.

The Internatio­nal Peace Poster Contest is being held in partnershi­p with the North Coast Lions Club and the Willoughby­Eastlake Public Library’s Tween Group at the Eastlake and Willowick Library locations.

The first-place winner will receive a $25 check and a $10 Amazon gift card, while the secondplac­e winner will receive a $25 Amazon gift card and the third-place winner will receive a $15 Amazon gift card.

Youths ages 11 to 13 are eligible to enter, and the deadline to enter is Oct. 1.

Participan­ts are encouraged to attend open houses at Eastlake and Willowick

Libraries to begin designing and working on their poster ideas with a variety of available mixed media (pencils, markers, crayons, etc.) which will be provided.

A reception to announce the contest winner will be held at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 19, at Willowick Public Library.
