Public Library to present Herb Day programs

Attendees can discover the wide range of lemon herbs, from lemon basil to lemon verbena, by learning how to grow and harvest the plants; how to incorporat­e the plants into your garden; and how to use the herbs in cooking and teas.

The Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library announced it will present Herb Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 18, at the Willoughby Hills Public Library.

The events kick off with “Culinary Herbs for Fall” from 11 a.m. to noon. Kathleen Kennedy, from the Herb Society of America, will share informatio­n on culinary herbs for the fall as well as informatio­n on the Herb Society located in Kirtland, according to a news release.

Then “Herbs 101” will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Attendees can plan their first herb garden with 10 easy to grow herbs. This introducto­ry class will cover steps from selecting a garden site through recipes using the homegrown herbs, the release stated.

This will be followed by “Lemon Herbs: Citrus Sensations!” from 1 to 2 p.m. Attendees can discover the wide range of lemon herbs, from lemon basil to lemon verbena, by learning how to grow and harvest the plants; how to incorporat­e the plants into your garden; and how to use the herbs in cooking and teas.

Finally, “To Tea or Not to Tea” will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Patricia Dennison, a certified Tea Sommelier, will teach guests all about herbal “teas,” and why they are not really tea at all, the release stated.

The Herb Society of America is dedicated to promoting the knowledge, use and delight of herbs through educationa­l programs, research and sharing the experience of its members with the community, according to the release.
