The Lake County Retired Teachers Association’s announced that its next luncheon will take place June 14 at the St. John Vianney Social Hall, 7575 Bellflower Road in Mentor.

Social Time begins at 11 a.m. with the start of the program promptly at 11:30. It is suggested that attendees wear their red, white and blue in honor of Flag Day, according to a news release.

The program fits in with the theme of Flag Day, as attendees will hear Bill Quinn from Quinn’s Flags speak on the history of the American flag. He will also talk about how flags are made and on proper flag etiquette.

Quinn was a survival equipment specialist in the Air Force and used to pack parachutes, before opening his flag business, now located in Eastlake.

The meal will follow the program, and the menu will be roast beef, glazed carrots, mashed potatoes, salad and rolls with tiramisu cheesecake for dessert. The vegetarian option is pasta primavera.

Reservations must be made in advance by sending a check payable to “LCRTA” for $21.50 to Susan McCarter, 9720 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Concord, OH 44060 so that it arrives to her by June 3. Indicate meal choice on the memo line of the check.

Community participation donations will also be collected for the Salvation Army in Painesville. The organization is collecting unexpired food items in boxes, cans, or pouches to help feed the hungry, the release stated.

Another option is the donation of school supplies to be distributed during the summer, to get students ready for the upcoming school year.

All newly retired teachers are encouraged to attend, and luncheon meetings are open to all who are interested in education. To find out more about the Lake County Retired Teachers Association, their extensive travel program and how to become a member of LCRTA visit their website.
