Beach operation hours unveiled at Lakefront Park

Lake Metroparks has announced Memorial Day Weekend and summer season hours for beach operations at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park.

From May 28 to 30, the entrance gate for parking will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., while lifeguards will be on duty from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and concession­s and paddle rentals will also be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Then from June 4 through Aug. 14, the entrance gate for parking will be staffed 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fridays through Mondays while no fee will be collected Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Lifeguards will be on duty 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays through Mondays with swimming permitted at the swimmer’s own risk on the other days of the week, according to a news release.

Concession­s and paddle rentals will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

End-of-season beach operation hours will be in effect Aug. 15 through Labor Day, the release stated.

Parking fees for Lake County residents will be $2 per car while a season pass is available for $25. Parking for out-of-county visitors is $3 per car or a season pass is available for $35.

Sit-on-top ocean kayak rental fee is $10 an hour single or $15 an hour double, ages 16 and older. Ages 15 and younger must be accompanie­d by an adult.

Stand-up paddleboar­d rental fee is $10 per hour single, ages 16 and older. Ages 15 and younger must be accompanie­d by an adult.

A Lake Metroparks Paddle Card is available for $80 for 10 hours or $100 for unlimited time. This card allows people to come to the beach Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day and paddle on a single stand-up paddleboar­d or single siton-top kayak.

Cards can be purchased at the rental shack on the beach.

Beach rules:

• Smoking is prohibited on the sand, the boardwalk and in the concession area.

• No alcohol is permitted.

• Put litter in containers provided.

• Do not bring glass containers to the beach.

• Umbrellas and small pop-up canopies (10 feet by 10 feet) permitted behind lifeguard stands on sand and grass.

• Fires must be contained within a proper grill or other designated area approved by the executive director.

• Keep amplified music at a reasonable level.

• Supervise children, both in the water and on land.

• Swim only in the designated swim area.

• Flotation devices are not permitted in the swim area.

• Dogs must be on a leash and are allowed only on the paved parking lot or in the designated dog area east of the concession stand. Due to recent shoreline erosion, access to the lake for dogs is closed for the safety of both pets and their owners, the release stated.

• Clean up pet waste immediatel­y and properly.

The park, open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., is located at 301 Huntington Beach Drive in Fairport Harbor.
