The Prescription Assistance Program of Ohio, located in Concord Township, is looking to give away 4,480 free pairs of reading glasses.

The glasses are available for “anyone that needs them,” said program President Joel Lucia, adding “we will not do a financial background check on anyone.”

Reading glasses for men and women are available in various strengths, including 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, 2.00 and 3.00. Lucia said that the program usually gives each recipient a pack of four, since people may need glasses in multiple rooms.

The program cannot afford mailing costs and has partnered with community institutions to help distribute the reading glasses. It has already delivered shipments to every senior center in Lake County as well as some churches.

“We have made at least two deliveries to the Mentor Senior Center, and I believe they want more,” Lucia said. “We have also delivered the glasses to several churches. Most would like to have more deliveries.”

“Our seniors absolutely love it,” said Dave Duricky, recreation coordinator at the Mentor Senior Center. “The fact that they go — probably within 48 hours they’re all gone — that shows you that they’re needed, and especially for those seniors that might be on limited income.”

Though the program has reached numerous senior centers and churches, Lucia said that there are many people outside of those two institutions who have yet to hear about the reading glasses.

People who would like to know more can reach out to the Prescription Assistance Program of Ohio at 440-350-1470. The program will make arrangements to deliver glasses to interested individuals and distribution partners.
