Margaret Louise “Queenie” Jones, age 93 of Mentor passed away surrounded by loving family at her home, on July 18, 2022 . She was born on April 17, 1929 in Brownton, WVa to the late Frank and Anna (nee: Rebalka) Rus. Margaret and her husband Gene graduated from Flemington High School. They married in 1951. Three children later, they chose to self build their first home in Grafton, West Virginia. In 1961 for employment purposes, it was necessary to relocate to Ohio where Margaret and Gene built a second home in Grand River,Ohio. Margaret kept a busy life, always involved in her children’s activities making Halloween costumes, a Homeroom Mother of one child every year and a member of PTA’s and Riverside Maineliner­s Sports Club. Margaret was also an active member of “Blazettes”, The Ladies Auxiliary of Grand River Fire Dept. She was involved in many fundraiser­s using her recipes of Meatballs Sauce and Cabbage Rolls to support these organizati­ons. Margaret’s work life post high school was a Switchboar­d Operator where “Party Lines” was the way neighbors connected with each other. Her work life came full circle as her last job was at Profession­al Answering Service in Mentor, Ohio. Margaret had a love for dancing, exercise, fashion and makeup. She was an “Avon” lady and always had a drawer of makeup for her girls to dabble in. Another

passion of Margaret’s was tending to her plants – a passion that carried with her to her last days as her “weekly” chores was watering the house plants- we hope they enjoyed that last drink. Cleveland “Indians” was “her” team, “Sonin-Law” Bob kept her up to speed on game day schedule, pitching rotation and trades. Her heart was broken when her “grandson” Frankie Lindor was traded. In 1988 Margaret and Gene moved to Florida to enjoy some retirement life

in the sunshine. Upon Gene’s untimely passing, Margaret reconnecte­d with a “childhood sweetheart” Bob Shaw, they were married in 1986 and spent approximat­ely 20 years together. In 2014, Margaret, in her advancing years moved back to Ohio to stay with family. She is survived by her children, Rustall “Rusty” (Diana Olynyk) Jones, Tamara “Tammy” (Bob) DiCarlo, and Jennifer Hoppert; grandchild­ren, Briana (Rob) Buemi, Randall (Samantha) Hoppert, Michael (Sara) DiCarlo; great grandchild­ren,Sophia Grace Hoover, and Evie Hoppert; sister, Charlene Digman; and many nieces and nephews. We must not forget her “boy” Brutus DiCarlo. In addition Margaret in recent years reconnecte­d with childhood friend since age 4, Helen Mangelo – talking and reminiscin­g over old times – those daily phone calls were the highlight of each day. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Gene A. Jones : 2nd husband, Robert C. Shaw; siblings, Mary (Gable) Bensky, Helen (Mearl)Spencer, Frances(Mike Seboria,Walt Miller) Miller, Joseph (Martha Ann) Rus, Anna (Gus) Amodio and brother in law Charles Digman. Also her precious pup Boa B. Visitation will be Friday, July 22, 2022 from 3-7PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesvill­e, Ohio 44077. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Anthony of Padua, 316 5th St., Fairport Harbor, Ohio 44077. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date in Mentor Municipal Cemetery.
