Cleveland State men blow 16-point lead, lose at Oakland

Cleveland State led by as many as 16 points midway through the second half, but host Oakland rallied to force overtime and win, 9289, on Feb. 4.

The Vikings led, 82-77, with 11.6 seconds remaining.

The Golden Grizzlies made it 82-80 on a 3-pointer. Then CSU turned it over and committed a foul, allowing Oakland to make two free throws to tie the game at 82-82. CSU missed a jumper in the waning seconds, and the game went to overtime.

CSU got within one point at 90-89 with three seconds remaining OT, but Oakland finished it off with two free throws.

Tristan Enaruna paced CSU (14-11, 9-5 Horizon) with 25 points. The Vikings also got 17 points and two steals from Jayson Woodrich. Deshon Parker had 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

The Vikings lost both games in Michigan this week. The begin four straight home games against Robert Morris on Feb. 10.

TENNESSEE OUSTS AUBURN >>

Josiah-Jordan James scored 15 points to lead No. 2 Tennessee 46-43 over No. 25 Auburn in a game where every point was seemingly difficult and nothing flowed. The 19-4 Volunteers shot 27% from the field and 9.5% from the 3-point line. The 17-6 Tigers were led by

Johni Broome with 11 and K.D. Johnson off the bench with 10 points. LS only managed 24% from the field and 11% from the 3-point line..

IRVING MISSES GAME WITH CALF STRAIN >> Kyrie Irving will not play for the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night, a day after he told the team he would like to be traded. The Nets said Irving’s absence was due to right calf soreness, adding him to the injury report for their game against Washington. Irving had not been listed on the report either Feb. 4 or the morning of Feb. 4. Irving asked the Nets for a trade Feb. 3, a person with knowledge of the details told The Associated Press. The AllStar has been frustrated that the Nets have thus far refused to give him an extension on his contact that expires after this season.

BRAVES WIN IN ARBITRATIO­N >> Pitcher Max Fried has lost to the Braves in salary arbitratio­n. He’ll make $13.5 million in the upcoming season instead of his $15 million request. Mark Burstein, Fredric Horowitz and Jeanne Vonhof issued their decision a day after hearing arguments. Fried won a $6.85 million salary last year in arbitratio­n instead of the team’s $6.6 million proposal. Fried followed former Atlanta teammate Dansby Swanson in going to a hearing in consecutiv­e years.
