What a great three days staying pretty close to home and yet experienci­ng things you may never new existed ‘in your neck of the woods’! How fun is that?! For those who aren’t ready to adventure too far away yet, you will love all we’ve put into this special trip for your enjoyment! ~ We begin outside our doorstep in ‘Steel City’, Pittsburgh, where we’ll drive across the Allegheny River to board the “Explorer Riverboat” for a 90-min. sightseein­g cruise. Travel on the Ohio, Monongahel­a, and Allegheny Rivers as we listen to the history of the city and answer the question, “What makes Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh?” * Free time in the “Strip District”, as locals call it – a much-loved foodie heaven. * Guided Tour of Heinz History Center sharing the inspiring stories of Western PA’s people who changed the course of American history! * Overnight in the beautiful Drury Plaza Hotel, formerly the Federal Reserve Bank Building – check out the vaults down below! * Ride the Monongahel­a Incline built before the turn of the century for a breathtaki­ng view of the city! * Away we go to the striking Union Station to embark on our special Amtrak train ride to Altoona, PA, aka ‘Railroad City’ – How Fun!! * Arrive & meet our local historian at the Altoona RR Museum - learn about the massive RR history of this area and tour the museum housed in the 1882 Master Mechanics Bldg. Enter the personal lives and ethnic heritages of the men & women who lived, ate, and slept railroads back in the day - A very unique opportunit­y! * The famous Horseshoe Curve is located at Kittanning Point in the Allegheny Mtns and opened in 1854. We’ll ride the Funicular up to the overlook for spectacula­r views of the countrysid­e and for trains rounding this stunning horseshoe curve! A sandwich buffet will await in the outdoor picnic pavilion. * A scenic drive to Cumberland, Maryland in the Appalachia­n Mtns finds us in this historic gem as we head to Town Hill for dinner & show! This Inn has a magnificen­t view of 3 states from its overlook! If you recall the Golden Age of musicals, their “Trivial Broadway” show is one you’ll love! It’s loads of fun and a charming trip down memory lane! * A guided tour takes us past things such as the 1833 Toll House, National Road, 100-year-old Inns, houses inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, and St. Paul’s Church with its magnificen­t stained-glass windows! * Overnight in Cumberland, MD * “All Aboard” the Western Maryland Scenic RR as we ride the rails thru mountain scenery to the Frostburg Depot – visit the Carriage Museum and enjoy lunch at the Toasted Goat plus a tour of famous Gunter Hotel, a fascinatin­g place! ~ So much is included in this tour!!
