Fairport library schedules programs

The following programs are scheduled at Fairport Public Library:

Love Your Neighbor Food Drive / Now through Feb. 28: February is the month of love, and the Library is loving their neighbors by sponsoring a non-perishable food drive. All food will be delivered to St Anthony’s Ecumenical Food Bank. Drop items off at the library during all open hours.

• K-5 Art Club / 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 and March 7: Art Club will now meet every other week with Kassie and Zana Kids in grades K-5 are invited to explore various art mediums while creating fun projects.

• Youth Poetry Event / 3:30 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22: Hear ye, hear ye, do you like poetry? Come join us as we write and perform some poems together! We’ll be talking about different forms of poetry and practicing writing them together! If you’ve ever been interested in exploring this art style, here is your chance! Open to students in Grades 4-12.

• Readers Theatre / 3:154:15 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23: For wannabe actors, theatre lovers, or people who don’t want to memorize lines. Together we will read plays out loud and ham it up as much or as little as we want.

• Chess Club / 10 to noon, Saturday, Feb. 25 & March 11: Chess Club is hosted by chess master Steve Neff. All ages and skill levels welcome!

• Local History Discussion / 1 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25: A lively discussion on various stories and events in the history of Fairport Harbor Village. Hosted by FHPL and led by John Ollila.

• Teen Special”Tea” Party / 4 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28: Teens, join the Special”Tea” Club that meets the last Tuesday of every month. We will have a theme for each month’s Tea Party. The Theme for February is Tea in the Garden. Join us as we pretend it’s a warmer time of year in the “garden” (meeting room). This month we encourage dressing in bright/warm colors and florals.

• Mending Circle / 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 4: Do you have clothes that need mending or a sewing or embroidery project you’re working on?

Join us on the first Saturday of the month to learn how to mend or enjoy company while you sew! Three Sewing machines, embroidery tools, and hand sewing materials will be provided. If you need specific colors of thread or patches/ buttons, please bring them. All skill levels are welcome. Some basic instructio­n can be provided.

• Fairport Scribblers Writing Group / 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday March

6. Hosted by local writer Kate Sullivan, this group offers writing helps, writing prompts and constructi­ve criticism to any struggling or beginning writer.

• Spelling Bee / 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 11. A spelling bee for adults! Who will take home the trophy this year?

The library is located at 335 Vine St., in Fairport Harbor. Open hours are Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
