GSSN hosts ‘Mama Bears’ viewing, panel discussion
Mama Bears is an intimate, thought-provoking exploration of the journeys of three families that struggle with accepting their child’s identification as LGBT because of Christian beliefs.
Geauga SOGI Support Network announced it is sponsoring an in-person and virtual screening of the documentary “Mama Bears,” followed by a panel discussion, on March 5, from 2 to 5 p.m.
This feature film was shown at the Chagrin Documentary Filmfest in October and also was awarded Best Documentary of both the Sun Valley Film Festival and Out Shine LGBTQ+ Film Festivals in 2022, according to a news release.
“Mama Bears is an intimate, thought-provoking exploration of the journeys of three families that struggle with accepting their child’s identification as LGBT because of Christian beliefs,” the release stated. “Their paths and challenges are moving and poignant.”
The film, two hours long, is suitable for youth accompanied by parents, an opportunity for family discussion, according to the release.
The panel members are Vanessa Jensen, who specializes in LGBTQ youth; Jess Peacock, pastor of Community Church of Chesterland; a parent; and a young adult. This panel presentation will not be available to virtual viewers.
The in-person screening will be held at the Family Life Center, managed by the Community Life Collaborative, 16349 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge Township. Tickets are free for this in-person and virtual education/awareness event though free-will offerings will be accepted to help defray the costs of renting the film, streaming, and use of the facility.
Tickets must be obtained for each in-person attendee through https://givebutter. com/hxpXEv. Seating capacity is limited, and reservation deadline is 3 p.m., March 4.
Virtual viewing is limited to residents of Ohio. Access for viewing is within 48 hours of the event. Email info@GeaugaSOGI.org to receive the link.
